None of us like to think that we're getting older, but when you look in the mirror in the morning, some things can become obvious, especially in the pale light of winter sunshine. Wrinkles are a modern scourge, particularly in a society that values youth over age. Because of our busy lifestyles, our bad choice habits such as smoking and drinking, and all the pollution that we walk through every day, our skin just doesn't stand a chance.

Add to that the makeup that we wear on our faces, and by the time we're 40, most of us have at least some lines that we wish we could erase.

You could go out and buy up the latest in scientific discovery and slap that on your face, but what if you could just do it without the chemicals and additives? Well, now you can, and it isn't as much of an effort as you might think.

Anti-wrinkle your face with a mask

Mix up a handful of oatmeal – the instant kind is fine – with two tablespoons of plain yogurt, a teaspoon of honey, and half a tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Rub your face with it (it might be easier if you use a cotton wool ball). Leave it on there for ten minutes, and remove with warm water.

The oatmeal in particular has a lot of vitamin E, which is incredibly good for your skin, but if you prefer things to be a little easier, it's possible to buy capsules of vitamin E from any wholefood shop or supermarket. Just add the liquid from two to three of those instead of the oat bran, and dab on the mixture with the cotton wool.

Flaxseed oil for better skin

Flaxseed oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, and alpha-linolenic acids that are truly amazing for improving your skin and getting rid of those early wrinkles. The recommended dose is one tablespoon of flaxseed oil, four times daily; however, too much too quickly may lead to diarrhoea, so you should probably start with one tablespoon the first day, two the second, and build up the rest quite slowly so that you don't have to worry about any bad effects!

Grapes are great for wrinkles

Seriously, take a couple of grapes, cut them in half, and rub the cut side over your face. Leave it to dry and let it soak in for about 20 minutes before you wash it off with warm, clean water. Grapes won't get rid of any alarming big wrinkles, but those fine lines around the eyes and mouth are toast when it comes to grape therapy!

Coconut oil and massage techniques

Extra virgin coconut oil is supposed to be very good for you, and it certainly works on your wrinkles. Just massage it in every night with your fingertips and you should see a better skin situation within a few weeks. Massage by itself can be effective as well.
